CLEO V BECOMES PRESIDENT OF UNEC SUG
Following the removal of Ekene
Eze aka Ekene Finally as the president of the SUG, Vivian Ifechukwu Ezenwekwe
aka Cleo V was sworn in as the President of SUG this on this day Wednesday,
November 26, 2014 at Room 1 of Coscharis Lecture Hall, UNEC by the Chief Judge
of SUG High Court, Justice Emmanuel Onyeabor.
The event was commenced by a
prayer and afterwards a speech by the Chief Judge who adumbrated reasons why
Cleo V was being sworn in as the president which included the facts that Ekene
Finally was accused of gross misconducts by the Executive Council which led to
the vote of no confidence passed on him by the Council and ratified by the
House. He went further to state that Cleo V is not being sworn in as the acting
president but rather the substantive president as Ekene Finally is no longer
the president and can only challenge the occasion if he goes to court and which
so far he had not done so.
After the Chief Judge had
finished his speech, he invited Cleo V to the stage and handed her the written
oath so as to commence the actual swearing in. However, a little hitch was
experienced as neither Cleo V nor the Chief Judge was with a Bible and none
could be readily found. However, the CJ improvised by using the SUG Court
Registrar, Chidiogo Linda Amafili as a stand-in Bible saying “you represent the
authority of the court and as such the incoming president will have to hold
your hand in lieu of the Bible”.
After the oath taking, Cleo V
made a short speech in which he vowed to abide by the wordings of her oath and
avoid the pitfalls that led to Ekene’s removal and called on her colleagues to
cooperate with her to move the wheels of SUG forward.
The Speaker of the SUG House,
Chukwuemeka Ambrose spoke next. He started by quoting a Latin maxim “fiat
justitia, ruat coelum” (let justice be done, though the heavens fall). He
further stated “let it be known that the House did not impeach the former
president, Eze Ekene but it was the Executive Council who passed a vote of no
confidence on him”.
The Secretary General of SUG,
Agbo Friday also spoke at length and stated that they did what they did because
it was necessary and that they drew their power from the “doctrine of
necessity”.
The Deputy Senate President of
the UNN SUG Senate, Senator Ibeneme Emeka stated that the new SUG leadership
should bear in mind that all arms of the government are equal and so none
should underrate the other.
All things being equal, Cleo
V’s reign will be a very short one as reports reaching Lionspot is that the
school has already perfected the SUG election calendar and that the Hostel
governorship elections will be coming soon followed by the executive elections
which will hold on December 12 2014.
So, basically, the student
population is expecting Cleo V to pull a successful SUG Week and see to the
production of the UNEC Post.
