PROPOSED UNN BUSINESS SCHOOL: DETAILS OF OUR MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION

It was an impromptu meeting and in attendance were were representatives of the university administration, the executive and legislative arms of the SUG. The meeting was held in the office of the Dean, Student Affairs Department on Friday, 09/09/2016, and we tabled our resolution as regards the subject matter above. The resolution, for the records, remained as follows:
1. It should be offered to the students at no extra cost.
2. It should be made optional so whoever wants to take advantage of the program can do so at will, not by compulsion.
3. If none of the two above is acceptable, then it should be scrapped

Our stand was well noted by the representatives of the university and we were making progress until there was a hint of disharmony in our representation as the Senate President seemed to be speaking out of harmony with the stand of the Union. First he came up with the idea that it cannot be given to the students at no cost, then he added that it cannot be optional as they will not get enough patronage to foot the cost of running the program and paying off the professionals that will be involved.

Sensing we were already seen as not speaking with one voice, we had to excuse ourselves from the meeting, promising to get back to them next week, most probably on Wednesday after the public holidays.

Before then, we also suggested fusing of the idea into CEDR so as to make it purely practical instead of the theory it has been without achieving its aim. The re sponse was that it cannot be fused as the intricacies involved in curriculum change takes about 5years. Thus, we suggested the process of that change should be initiated so that probably in five years it will mature. It will be a duplication of courses and programmes running two entrepreneurship programmes at the same time, especially when it involves extra cost to the students who thus far have been paying so much as consolidated school fees without any form of accountability or good value for the money.

Whatever the outcome of our subsequent meetings will be duly communicated to you. Meanwhile, we still wish to solicit your prayers and moral support as it is God's favour that will make for an amicable resolution at the end of it all.
