PROPOSED BUSINESS SCHOOL: DETAILS OF OUR MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION; THE UNTOLD STORY

PROPOSED BUSINESS SCHOOL: DETAILS OF OUR  MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION; THE UNTOLD STORY.

I Dist. Sen. Mbagwu Martins greet you all fellow Lions and Lionesses most fundamentally and doggedly. One of Nigerian's finest writer and the 1986 Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Prof. Wole Soyinka said and I quote,

"the man in me begins to fade away when I decide to keep quite and remain silent in the face of tyranny".

I come in peace and I'm here to tell you the untold and truthful story herein. Let me at this juncture us this veritable medium to express my profound gratitude to you all for your unalloyed and immense support thus far towards the Students Union Government especially the Legislative arm since the start of this administration sometimes in May 2016. I say a big thank you Lions and Lionesses.

However, I must say I am highly disappointed at the assertions of the Information Officer of SUG UNN as regards the details of the meeting between the SUG representatives and the representatives of the School Administration. The post which erroneously indicted me as to be an enemy of the students of this great university is highly untrue, misleading, derogatory, condemnable and should be jettisoned and ignored by all and sundry who meant well for the students of this great university. As called upon to attend the said meeting, I observed from the start of the meeting the fear in some us in making our views and demands known and concrete to the school administration's representative. For evidence sake, here is the summary a of all what transpired at the meeting;
*School Admin*: The program is really good and would be beneficial to the students, though we've seen your demands as stated but we are sorry to say it can't be made free of charge.

*SUG Reps*: Well sirs, it should be made free since you all said it is highly beneficial to we the students, please it should be made so at no cost on the part of the students or even if it has an attached cost, it should be made optional considering the harsh economic situation of the country.

*School Admin*: Not at all, it can't also be made optimal because making it optional wouldn't realize optimally any pool of fund which is one of its major objectives.

*Me*: On behalf of the Senate and the good students of the University of Nigeria, I wish to make my assertions, since it can't be made free nor made optional, there's no point being at loggerheads, it should be *SCRAPPED* and no further meetings upon meetings over what students are vehemently against should hold.

From the above conversation seen there in summary, it is crystal clear and could be seen that I stood earnestly for its SCRAPPING not even making it optional or even free as the case may be after the school had taken its stand. Whatever was in the previous post made my the Information officer was a clear misunderstanding of situation of things on his part. According to Section 51(F), subsection 1 of the New Constitution of the Student Union Government,

*" the Information Officer  should be responsible for giving due publicity to the activities of the Union with a view to projecting its group image"*

Not making posts that suggests witch hunting, character assassination and unnecessary upheaval in the Lion's deb which has been peaceful recently. We love the peaceful and conducive environment.

In conclusion, the SENATE is bent on doing its possible best to see to the yearnings and welfare of the students who elected us into office sometimes in April. Come to think of it,

How would I have made such statement in presence of the school admin and the SUG representatives?

Am I not also a student?

Is 15k or there about a small money to get at this point in time in this country?

Don't I know that first year students will pay for laptops and some second year students will continue their payment this year?

These are questions that are begging for answers for who believes that fallacious statement. I am not unaware of the situation of the country now and we as a union will see to the welfare of you all LIONS and LIONESSES.

As regards the Business school, I called the Dean of Students Affairs and told her the Senate's stand, I thank God that we are heading towards the end of it. It has been SCRAPPED TOTALLY.

THE SENATE IS WORKING
SUG IS WORKING
GOD IS IN CHARGE

I and my Distinguished Senators said No to the BUSINESS SCHOOL PROGRAM.

I thank you for your undivided attention and support, we shall all make it to the promise land. Amen.

ALUTA CONTINUA...!!!

Yours truly:
Dist. Sen. Martin Mbagwu
Senate President
University of Nigeria.
