NEWS FROM THE DEN!!! Friday, October 16, 2015

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, Lions and Lionesses, home and abroad. Today we bring you reports of happenings in the Den of Lions. We have decided to take up this course because we believe most of you at home are already tired of staying at home and have been dreaming about coming back to the Den. More so, we believe a lot of you also wish to be informed about the details of what is happening with our hosting of the West African University Games. Thus we implore you to sit back, relax with a bottle of cold drink and enjoy the read.

WEST AFRICAN UNIVERSITY GAMES 2015

Today's report will begin with the West African University Games. Representatives of different universities across the country and some other West African countries like Ghana arrived the Nsukka campus of the university in preparation for the opening ceremony of the games. This continued today as more buses came in through different gates of the university, bringing in representatives. There are however some hitches as there are indications that the university may not be fully prepared for the hosting of the games. At the time of filing this report, the university stadium was still being decorated while the demarcations on the football pitch were still in the process of construction.

Another issue arose from the members of Team UNN as they were yet to officially register for the games at the time of this report. According to our source, they were yet to be addressed officially as concerns the games and some of their uniforms which should be used tomorrow have not been made available. Some of those we interviewed complained about inconsistency in the management of the team as regards their meals and other facilities. The opening ceremony is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Saturday, October 17th, 2015.

NEW ARRIVALS

Next session will sure bring a lot of new things in the Den. First was the Federal Government's Treasury Single Account Policy which has resulted in the radical change in the mode of payment to the university. As it stands now, payment for anything as regards the university is through bank drafts. Payment for shopping, JUPEB registration, Direct Entry Registration, etc. has thus far been through the same means and it is expected that subsequent ones will toe the same line. This is why we advise as many newly admitted students clamouring for payment of their acceptance fees to keep calm until the university announces an alternative mode of payment. Generation of invoice numbers will not help at this time as the banks will still tell you the same stories.

New mattresses, buckets, pillows and other items were supplied to the university yesterday. At first one may think they were meant for those participating in the West African University Games but a walk around the various hostels and offices on campus will make you think again. Balewa Hall has got her own supply of the new mattresses and pillows while more were packed at the Student Affairs Department. Others were kept at the Works Department adjacent Cash Office. The quantity there sure makes it clear that there is a possibility of the supply going round. In fact, some of the mattresses have UNN logo on them showing they were specifically made for us. Thus, it will not be out of place to say we have hope. Hope for new things, hope for a change in our living conditions.
