THE DEATH OF FUN

Recently a new tax regime has been implemented in the Federal Capital Territory despite the financial hardship Nigerians are contending with following the dwindling oil revenue, devaluation of the naira and high inflation rate, the authorities of F.C.T are set to implement this new tax regime  tagged Entertainment tax. In 2011/2012 a similar tax was introduced by Senator Mohammed. It was called " park and pay" where motorists were compelled to pay a certain amount of money for the number of minutes or hours their vehicles were parked on government property.
After aggrieved motorists approached a federal court in Abuja and the policy was eventually defeated. It remained unclear what all the money realized was used for, some pegged the park and pay income at about 2billion#, others said it was over 5billion#.
Mr Isa Ari Mohammed who is the one spearheading the policy says that the income will be used to augment the dwindling allocations of the F.C.T. Arguments in favour of this new tax is that the rich should be made to pay for the luxury to aid their less fortunate brothers the poor. 5% of every luxuries activity participated in the aforementioned state is to paid as "entertainment tax"!. This indeed in light of current circumstances and the fact that Nigerian have quick adopted the individualistic nature of the westerners signals the death of fun in F.C.T.
