Leaders of Nsukka Zone pledge Support For NEW VC

Leaders of Nsukka Cultural Zone under the umbrella of Nsukka General Assembly have congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, on his appointment as the VC and pledged their support to his administration.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Chairman of the group, Prof. Lawrence Ocho noted that the transparent process that led to the emergence of Prof. Ozumba as the Vice-Chancellor has endeared him to the hearts of Staff and students of the University as well as the host community.
"Nsukka General Assembly is aware that you are a man of integrity and a practical Christian.  A core academic and great physician, you are equipped with all that is required to 'doctor' UNN to its fabled greatness, academic prowess and glory", he said.  

Prof. Ocho requested the Vice-Chancellor to help restore Etra-mural study centres that prepared school leavers for GCE A level and university entrance examinations, urging him to also facilitate the establishment of Agricultural Extension Services to farmers in Nsukka area.

He prayed for peace and industrial harmony to reign throughout the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor, stating that the leadership of the Assembly was always available for consultation and cross-breeding of ideas.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the group for finding time to visit him, stating that their coming assured him that he is in the midst of friends.
He said that the University of Nigeria is a land grant University that cannot do without the host community especially in the area of Agriculture.

Prof. Ozumba said his administration had concluded plans to revitalize agriculture in the University within the next one year and would also make commitment to the revival of exra-mural classes for school leavers.

The Vice-Chancellor said his administration would soon release its strategic and investment plans for the speedy development of the University of Nigeria. He berated people who accuse his new administration of not having a plan, stating that he has "no reckless plans for the University".

Some members of the Nsukka General Assembly on the courtesy visit included: Dr Okwesili Eze Nwodo, former Governor of Enugu State, General JOJ Okoloagu (rtd), Chief Nnia Nwodo, General G. Ugwuoke (rtd), and a host of other prominent personalities in the zone.

Nsukka cultural zone is made up of Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Isi-Uzo, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas.
