“Where have we gone wrong?” by EKENE FINALLY

Another Friday, miasma appears for the second time in two weeks

And deep in our hearts, we know it’s answers that we all seek.

But would we now dare that the departed should speak?

God Forbid: creating a sense of despair is another of the devil’s potent tricks.

 

Early in the year, “016” announced the demise of Opala-ugo Chukwuemeka.

We all wailed but consoled ourselves. He was afterall at peace with his maker.

October 4, “014” broke the heart-rending news of 22-year old Igboama Izuchukwu, who sadly had succumbed despite having endured untold pain as far as Ituku.

 

Now exactly two weeks; and “015” tells the world, 21-year old Chioma too has gone?

For how long and for how many shall we continue to mourn?

Oh! God what has the Faculty of Medicine done that is so gravely wrong;

That with tears we shall all now be singing yet another sorrowful song?

 

See we’ve been crying all year; our tears now flowing like streams.

2013 AD; you’re indeed a black year- a year of many shattered dreams.

You’ve connived with death to cut those young lives off like they were all grasses.

Now at this altar of grief, we find our hearts in pieces, just like broken glasses.

 

But Lord how is it that you’re up there, yet we now live in a cold world of fear?

Please Father, may this be the last, coz we’re getting weak and are running out of tears.

Then, Lord against your chest, and in peace, may their gentle souls all nestle.

And for the living, may you equally build around us an impenetrable castle
