Re: SSANU PROPOSED STRIKE

I stayed away from the confusion on the above topic because until now,
I did not get a good-enough information to delve into it. However,
owing to the questions arising at the return of students from the
Christmas break, I made some calls and got some clarifications which I
will outline below:
1. It is true that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian
Universities are embarking on a nationwide strike to protest the
proposed sack of about 2,000 of their colleagues by the federal
government.
2. However, for now the strike is only affecting non-academic staff of
the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Details of that I do not have but I
am sure it is true and trustworthy.
3. At such, lecturers and other academic staff of the university will
continue to report to classes and perform their academic duties until
further notices.
4. Though we do not pray for it, if the strike lingers, academic staff
may join in solidarity. But as at today, they are not yet involved.
Thus, I encourage all Lions and Lionesses who are yet to return to
campus to do so as academic activities are resuming with full force.
Also, you may need to be reminded that according to the timetable of
events for this academic session, first semester examination starts
next month.
