Press Release

STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA ENUGU CAMPUS.

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
PRESS RELEASE.

Fellow cohabitants of the DEN:
It affords me great pleasure to tender my friendly greetings to us on the occasion of our preparation to return to the DEN for yet a new and promising session. The task devolves on me, under a provision of our reverenced constitution, to present to you, as members of a Union with a membership strength of over 11,000 armless battalion happy people, the giant strides the government of the union has taken to uphold the mantra that brought us into office; "students welfarism first", and also to suggest and enforce measures that will promote the objectives of the union.

In communicating with you for the first time this session, it is to me a source of unfeigned satisfaction that in the midst of administrative hitches and unprecedented federal government troubling-policies, we have cause of great gratitude to the Almighty God for unusual good health and life.
You will nor be surprised to learn that the union government has been on her toes to ensure that things go the proper way.
In a few lines below we have a cause to let you know of the following achievements;
1. WATER: My administration promised free pipe borne water. Owing to this, the VC has borne 10 new bore-hole sites within campus to enhance/improve the supply of free & quality pipe borne water.
2. I.D CARDS: The I.D cards my government promised is ready. If you registered, kindly head to the ICT unit to get yours.
3. SCHOOL FEES: After a rather tough battle, we made sure that the school fees was not increased. Note that the second years will pay the same amount(#12000) they paid in their second year for internet access.
4.ATTRACTED PROJECTS: The Union has through her doggedness and ever zealous pursuit for excellence attracted a new Secretariat from the state governor (to be built next year) and a union vehicle from the Vice chancellor.

In contrast, now that we all geared up to come back, Permit me to reveal to you issues that might not really go down well with all, but be it as it may, they must be said.
Firstly, we all need to know of that all federal institutions have been facing some challenges and the University of Nigeria isn't exempted. The major block of this issue is the TSA policy that brought all activities of the school to a halt. It is not my purpose to bore us with too much details of this predicament.
Next, it is imperative that we all know that our hostels weren't renovated and that all common rooms(wooden demarcations) have been brought down like the walls of Jericho. Every hope of coming back to meet a renovated hostel should be dropped.
Also, I wish to let us know that we might experience some difficulties as regard accommodation at least for one week. Students that can't bear with this are advised to resume one week later after the school's resumption date. Albeit, this applies only to old students as temporal accommodation has been arranged for first years/fresher's.

It should be noted that the school Mgt has made the payment of hostel fees and subsequent Clearance from the students affairs department a prerequisite for anyone to gain entrance into the hostels. However, we are still trying to gain a middle ground with the school Mgt on this development.

Apologies are rendered to all law students that are back and are yet to be accommodated and to all medical students still in school that might fight it difficult to access accommodation. Measures are being put in place to address these problems.

Once more, I happily  welcome our young lions and lionesses (cubs) into the DEN. You all have made great choices that you will never regret in a life time. Just remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. I assure you all that the right step in the right direction is what you have taken. So, make up your mind and prepare for the great task ahead. In any case you need help, direction or information, call the following numbers; 08167964708(welfare officer), 08035396664(information officer).

Conclusively, on behalf of the executive council, the legislative council and the judiciary, I wish US all a fun-filled and successful session.
GRAÇIAS!!!

Comr. Ilogebe Chidi HRH
SUG PRESIDENT UNEC
