BEFORE YOU COME FOR CLEARANCE (I):

This series is for new and incoming students of the University. In
this series, I will be sharing with you information you need as you
await the announcement of resumption date which will be the beginning
of the process of clearance for admission. The aim here is to make
your clearance process as stress-free as possible so you may resume
lectures with your colleagues at the right time.

DOCUMENTATION
The first point for consideration is DOCUMENTATION. This is important
because there are certain documents you need to have so as to avoid
running here and there and making unnecessary expenses while your
mates are putting finishing touches to their clearance. If you are
well armed with these, your clearance may be as stress-free as just
walking into an office and walking out. From my experience, original
copies of certain documents are meant to be handy. Here they are:

1. O'Level Result(s):
This should be the result you entered into the school portal when
registering for post-UTME. If you have used Awaiting Result, then that
result should be ready before you come for clearance.
2. Jamb Result:
If possible, it should be the coloured one which has your picture on
it. There is no strict law on this but most students get jittery when
they see their mates coming for clearance with something that looks
superior to theirs. Also, once you are in Nsukka and discover there is
need for printing out any result or slip, the cost of getting a Jamb
e-Facility card may be more than you imagined. Thus, you are better
off coming prepared.
3. Jamb Admission Slip:
This is the slip printed f rom Jamb's website which announces your
provisional admission to you. The last time I checked, this can be
accessed using the e-Facility card to log into Jamb's website.
4. UNN Admission Slip:
This is the page your print out from the university portal after you
have filled your Admission Form (See step 2 of INSTRUCTIONS TO
CANDIDATES OFFERED PROVISIONAL ADMISSIONS FOR THE 2015/2016 ACADEMIC
SESSION here: http://unnmaxinfo.blogspot.nl/2015/09/instructions-to-candidates-offered.html?m=1)
5. UTME and Post-UTME Result Slips.
6. Birth Certificate
7. Admission List:
The page which contains your name on the admission list should be
printed and your name on the page marked.
8. Certificate of Indigenship from your Local Government Area of Origin:
This you may get from the secretariat of your Local Government Area of
origin. Most times, it is this that keeps students running here and
there while their colleagues tidy up their clearance. It is thus
important that you have this ready even before coming. It does not
expire, so if you can get it and keep while you await announcement for
resumption of new students, it will do you a lot of good.
9. Parent's/Guardian's Attestation Letter:
This is a letter from your parent/guardian attesting to your good
behaviour and his/her readiness to, not only support your academic
pursuit, but to also take responsibility for your behaviour while in
the university. This letter must be typed, and signed by your
parent/guardian.
10. Letter of Undertaking:
This will be given to you from the university in the course of your
clearance. It is your own version of your Parent's/Guardian's
Attestation Letter. It is a form which you fill with your names and
other details, promising to be responsible and of good behaviour
during your days as a student of the university.
Do anticipate the next topic in this series. For now,
